The Lady Raiders watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 21-6 loss to Hillcrest on Tuesday.
Hillcrest opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Hillcrest. The Lady Rams scored six runs in the fourth inning. The flood gates were opened with singles by Hannah Stevens and Jordan Brooks, and a home run by Lauren Howard.
Georgia Lieb led things off on the rubber for Hillcrest. She went one-third of an inning, allowing three runs on four hits and walking zero.
Rachel Delio was on the mound for Laurens. She surrendered 12 runs on six hits over three and a third innings, striking out two. Taylor Powell threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
Hillcrest socked two home runs on the day. Howard had her dinger in the fourth inning, and Alexi Hargrove had a four bagger in the third inning.
The Lady Raiders tallied 12 hits on the day. Powell, Cassy Plaia, Octavia Johnson, Michaela Smith, and Tamra Haney all had multiple hits to lead Laurens at the plate.
Hillcrest totaled 14 hits in the game. Machado, Stevens, Brooks, and Hargrove each collected multiple hits for Hillcrest. Machado led Hillcrest with three hits in four at bats. Hillcrest stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Machado led the way with two. Hillcrest didn’t commit a single error in the field, while the Lady Raiders committed 13.
Laurens will have two days to rebound before traveling to Hillcrest on Friday night. The loss moves the Lady Raiders to 13-8 on the season, 5-2 in Region 2 5A competition, with three games left in region play. Hillcrest now has sole possession of the Region lead, as Laurens slips into a tie for second with Mauldin. The Lady Raiders and the Lady Mavericks split their two game set earlier in the year.”
