Signing days have always been special at Laurens District 55 High School (LDHS). With schools shut down since mid-March and the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) announcing to cancel the spring sports season, LDHS wanted to find a safe way to celebrate these student-athletes who will be playing the sport that they love at the next level.
The eight (8) senior student-athletes signing their national letters of intent to play in college would normally gather inside the gym with student-athletes, coaches, classmates, teaching staff, administrators, family, and friends to celebrate. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, athletes were offered a private signing day with limited family at the high school.
LDHS Athletic Director Tommy Spires said, “These students have represented our school and the community. We’re proud of them. We wanted to give them one last opportunity to stand in front of the diamond L.”
