The Laurens Lady Raiders defeated Clinton 12-9 in a back-and-forth affair on Monday. The game was tied at nine, when batting in the top of the eighth, Rachel Delio doubled off of K Aikens, driving in three runs.
CJ Ginn led Laurens to victory by driving in four runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. Ginn drove in runs on a home run in the third and a double in the sixth.
Clinton took an early lead in the first inning. An error scored two runs for the Red Devils.
Laurens knotted the game up at nine in the top of the sixth inning. Ginn doubled on the first pitch of the at bat in the sixth inning, scoring two runs.
Clinton scored six runs in the fourth inning. Clinton’s big inning was driven by a double by C Bichmore, a double by M Pearson, a single by K Richardson, and a single by D Martin.
Rachel Delio earned the win for the Lady Raiders. She went seven and a third innings, allowing seven runs, six hits, striking out five, and walking one.
The big hits came for the Raiders when Ginn homered in the third inning and Annsley Nelson homered in the second inning.
Laurens pounded the ball at the plate as they had 15 hits in the game. Ginn, Matti Cantrell, Delio, Vanessa Harshaw, and Cassy Plaia each collected multiple hits.
Clinton collected nine hits. Pearson, Richardson, H Benson, and Martin each collected multiple hits for the Red Devils.
The Lady Raiders are now 11-8 on the season and 4-2 in region play. Laurens is back in action on Wednesday when they host Region 2 5A leader and foe, Hillcrest. This is the make up game for the annual Dinner on the Diamond. There will be rib dinner plates on sale for $10 each. All proceeds go to the Lady Raider softball program. It will also be Military Appreciation Night, where the softball team will honor all military personnel, both veteran and active. The LDHS Gospel Choir will also be preforming. Festivities start at 5:30 with the Junior Varsity game and the Varsity girls will throw the first pitch at 7:30.
