Game Recap

The Laurens Raiders got revenge on their rivals from Clinton with a 62-57 win over the Red Devils in Round 2 of the Laurens County Basketball rivalry. After blowing a late lead on Friday night, this time it was the Laurens Raiders turn to come back as they outscored Clinton 22-8 in the final quarter.
Both teams came out in a fast paced first quarter. The Raiders shot 8-13 from the field, including 6 for 7 on 2 point attempts. However, the Raiders gave up 19 points in the quarter and their hot start was negated by some good Clinton shooting and some defensive breakdowns by the Raiders.
In the second quarter, the teams traded baskets most of the quarter. Coming off the bench, Conner Dunlap hit a huge three pointer at the end of the quarter to cut the Clinton lead to 31-29 going into the half.
In the third quarter Clinton seemed to have pulled away in the game. The Red Devils scored another 18 points and led 49-40 going into the final quarter. Clinton did a lot of their damage from the free throw line as the Devils went 5-8 from the free throw line in the third.
Laurens saved the best for last though and dominated the final quarter by a score of 22-8, mostly through the play of Josh Greene and Braylon McBeth. Josh Greene hit back to back 3 pointers to take the Raiders from down 2 to up 4 in the fourth quarter. Greene had 10 of his 19 points in the final quarter. McBeth, playing in his first full game of the season scored 7 of his 15 points in the final quarter as well.
The Raiders, who lost on Friday due to poor execution down the stretch were able to turn the tables tonight. Coming out of one Laurens timeout, Ryan Dacre was able to find Josh Greene for a 3 pointer. After another Laurens timeout with under 2 minutes to go, Justin Anderson was able to find Keenan Dickey for a layup to extend a 2 point lead to 4. Late in the game with Clinton pressing, Laurens was able to get the ball in and after a Carson Todd layup on a side out of bounds play, the Raiders were able to seal the game.
Josh Greene led the Raiders with 19 points. Braylon McBeth had a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Zh’Rece Anderson came off the bench to give the Raiders a huge lift with 6 points and a team high 4 assists. Keenan Dickey had 6 points and 6 rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for the Raiders was Christian Anderson with 5 points, Carson Todd had 4, Connor Dunlap had 3 and Justin Anderson and Ryan Dacre each had 2 points.
The Laurens Raiders are now 1-5 on the season and take on the Woodruff Wolverines on Friday at home.
