Game Recap

The Laurens Raiders fell in round one of the Laurens County Basketball rivalry to the Clinton Red Devils 49-46 on Friday night.
The Red Devils started the game hot as they raced out to a 19-12 first quarter lead. Tashyman Boyd led the Red Devils with 8 of his 10 points in the first quarter. The Laurens Raiders were able to chip away at the 1st quarter lead as Josh Greene and Conner Dunlap each hit two three pointers in the first half and the Raiders went into halftime tied up with Clinton at 28.
In the third quarter, the Raiders seemed to have taken control of the game. The Raiders held Clinton to just 7 third quarter points. Josh Greene and Ty Foster led the Raiders out to a hot start in the third quarter, combining for 10 of Laurens’ 14 points in the third quarter. The Raiders led 41-35 entering the final quarter.
In the final quarter, the experienced Clinton team and the inexperience of the Raiders showed. Clinton was able to get dribble penetration to the basket and force the Raiders to foul. Clinton hit 7-8 from the free throw line in the final period. The Raiders were only able to manage a 3 pointer from Christian Anderson and a layup by Carson Todd the entire fourth quarter.
Despite the lack of scoring, the Raiders held the lead with less than 2 minutes to play. However, the Raiders simply made too many mistakes down the stretch. Clinton made 2 free throws to take the lead with 14 seconds left. The Raiders missed a shot and Clinton extended the lead to 3 with just 5 seconds left. A last second three pointer by Dravious Copeland was blocked as time expired and the Red Devils escaped victorious.
Josh Greene led Laurens with 13 points. Conner Dunlap had 6 points and Christian Anderson had 5. Justin Anderson, Ty Foster, Ryan Dacre, Carson Todd and Keenan Dickey each had 4 points. Braylon McBeth scored 2 points before he left the game with an illness.
The Raiders are now 0-5 on the season. They get a chance to avenge two of their losses this week as they play at Clinton on Tuesday night and at home against Woodruff this Friday night.
