Game Recap

In a game that was delayed during the 3rd quarter due to an injured Irmo player, the JV Raiders were able to defeat the Yellow Jackets 10-0 at KC Hanna Stadium on the campus of LDHS. Jackson Mahon scored the lone Raider touchdown of the night with a 12 yard scamper to the corner of the right endzone in the 2nd quarter.
The first half of the contest was very physical as both teams predominantly ran the ball. Dre Peake lead the Raider rushing attack, along with Zach Miller and Cody Emert. They were able to run behind the blocking of Tyrese Thompson, Austin James, Eli Tavenner, Andrew Shelton, DJ Avery, and Joachim Young.
Defensively, the Raiders were lead by a steady dose of Austin Bercume penetrating the backfield from his defensive end position, J’Von Harris and Garrett Addy at linebacker, and safety run support by Deonja Brown. Several other players contributed to the shutout efforts of the Raider defense.
The defensive unit accounted for the final 4 points added to the scoreboard on the night. The first 2 points came by way of a safety. On the play, Irmo’s offensive was flagged for holding in the endzone. A relentless rush forced the holding penalty to give the Raiders 2 points. The final points of the night came on an arrant snap by the Yellow Jacket punt team. The Raider Defense once again backed the Irmo offensive unit into a 4th down situation close to their goal line. As the punt snap sailed over the punter’s head, the referee once again signaled Safety.
The JV team will next be in action Thursday September 14, 2017 at Boiling Springs HS.
