Game Recap

In their home opener, the Laurens Raiders managed to hold off the Clinton Red Devils by creating and recovering a fumble on the Red Devils last drive of the game, deep in Raider territory. Troy Dendy was the workhorse for the victory, carrying the ball 25 times for 171 yards. Ryan Campbell also gained critical yardage through the air, completing 12 of 15 passes for 137 yards. Campbell used a variety of receivers throughout the night. Chris Jackson had four (4) receptions for 30 yards, Aaron McLeod was on the receiving end of 3 passes for 49 yards, Deonta Smith also caught 3 for 35 yards, and Will Tinsley and Tyrese Moses each had one reception on the night. McLeod had the lone passing touchdown on a 25 yard pass from Campbell.

Statistically, the difference was in the turnover category, which favored the Raiders, and in taking care of the ball and scoring each time the Raiders were in the Red Zone. In addition to the passing touchdown, Troy Dendy had two scores from 14 and 10 yards out, respectively. Devin Hubner was perfect on the night with 3 extra points and a 24 yard field goal.

Defensively, the Raiders were in the “bend but don’t break” mode. They gave up 215 yards rushing to the Red Devils, on 48 attempts, but only gave up one rushing TD. Clinton only threw the ball 5 times, completing the pass three times with two of those receptions going for scores.
